Farm Animal Field Service

Overview

The NC State Farm Animal Field Service team provides primary patient care and preventive health care programs to cows, goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas and other livestock species within a 1-hour practice area of Raleigh, North Carolina. We are open from 8-5 Monday to Friday. Our ambulatory clinicians provide on-farm services for herd health and individual sick animal evaluation. This includes an integrated approach to the identification, resolution, and prevention of health problems in herds and flocks.

The farm Animal Mobile Service offers a variety of primary patient care and preventive services including:

  • Preventive care: vaccination, dehorning, castration, parasite control programs
  • Small ruminant specific work: parasite management programs, foot trimming
  • Nutrition: body condition scoring and feedstuff evaluation
  • Reproductive services: pregnancy diagnosis, breeding soundness examination, estrus synchronization
  • Disease surveillance: field diagnostic sampling and necropsy
  • Access for referral to specialties, including, but not limited to, neurology, dermatology, internal medicine, surgery, and cardiology
