At the NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH) at the College of Veterinary Medicine, your pet will benefit from the cutting-edge knowledge and technology that you would expect from NC State University. They will be cared for by a medical staff that has been handpicked for their patient-centered approach and genuine compassion.

Our Care Team

With over 100 specialists on staff, we are the preeminent veterinary hospital in North Carolina and one of the largest in the country. When you visit us, an entire team of experts will be caring for your pet.

Faculty: Our attending clinicians are nationally recognized veterinarians who have had many years of training, typically including internship and residency programs, as well as board certification.

TechniciansOur veterinary technicians and assistants manage patient care, following the treatment plan created by your pet’s veterinarians. They also facilitate communication between you and your pet’s veterinarians. 

Client ServicesOur client services representatives are typically the first people you interact with. They manage patient check-in, communication with the referring veterinarian, and appointments.

ResidentsOur residents are licensed veterinarians and have typically already completed a one year internship and are pursuing a three year residency for training in a particular specialty area.

InternsOur interns are licensed veterinarians who are pursuing a one-year internship for advanced training.

4th Year Students: Our 4th year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students rotate through each service every two to four weeks, in order to gain experience in the clinical setting.

We help not only the pets we treat here, but pets everywhere who benefit from the medical innovation and veterinary education that NC State University provides.

The NC State Veterinary Hospital views veterinary care as a partnership between you (the client), the primary care veterinarian and our medical team. We will do our best to provide a range of diagnostic and management plans and abide by the approach selected by the client, while also considering what we feel is best for the patient. Your pet will receive safe, high-quality veterinary care regardless of client age, color, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion or sexual orientation.

The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, which includes the Veterinary Health and Wellness Center, the Terry Companion Animal Center, the Equine and Farm Animal Veterinary Center, and the Reedy Creek Equine Farm, promotes a values-driven culture of mutual respect and valuing the quality of our relationships and collaborations that are supported by prioritizing our community, practicing inclusivity, promoting innovation and pursuing our passion. 

Companion Animal Client Expectations

You are responsible for: 

  • Providing accurate information about your pet’s health and medical history.
  • Providing accurate information regarding all responsible parties.
  • Asking the medical team for clarification when you do not understand medical terms or instructions about your pet’s plan of care.
  • Following your pet’s plan of care after discharge from the hospital.
    • If you are unable/willing to follow the plan of care, you are responsible for telling your care provider, who will explain the potential medical consequences of not following the recommended plan.
  • Acting in a manner that is respectful towards other clients, clinicians, students and hospital staff.
  • Following the Hospital’s rules and regulations, including respect of Hospital property.
  • Meeting your financial obligation for the Hospital services provided, including the initial examination, and associated fees unless otherwise specified at the time of visit.
  • To receive high-quality, compassionate veterinary care.
  • To participate in and make decisions about your pet’s care, including declining care.
    • Your pet’s medical team will explain the potential medical consequences of declining the recommended treatment.
  • To have your pet’s illness, possible treatment plans and potential outcomes be explained in a manner you can understand.
  • To have communication provided to your primary care veterinarian
  • To receive written and verbal information about follow-up health care at the end of your pet’s visit.
  • To approve or decline for your pet to participate in clinical studies that they may be eligible for.
  • To have private and confidential treatment plans, communications, and medical records for your pet.
  • To have any concerns or complaints addressed.

The NC State Veterinary Hospital does not tolerate abusive, discriminatory, racist or harassing behavior by clients, family members or friends of the family. Any of these behaviors may result in denial of service and/or law enforcement intervention. Equine and Farm Animal Client Expectations
